Across the Canal From Shippan, Harbor Point's Waterfront Tables Are Between Chapters

Harbor Point has lost three restaurants in about ten months. The Beer Garden at Shippan Landing has been closed for all of 2026. One replacement is a seasonal pop-up and the other has a lease but no opening date. Through early December, Harbor Point is held up by a short list of restaurants with current hours and by a run of dated events. The new waterfront rooms come after that.

For anyone on Shippan Point who treats Harbor Point as the default dinner-and-events stop, that changes how to plan a weeknight out from now until the new year.

Three rooms went dark in under a year

The closures are spread out, which makes them easy to miss one at a time. Together they cover a lot of the waterfront.

  • Crab Shell, 46 Southfield Ave. closed in November 2025 after 36 years in business.
  • Mexicue came next, after about seven years in the neighborhood.
  • Fortina, 120 Washington Blvd. served its last day on August 31, after more than a decade at Harbor Point. Its Armonk and Rye Brook locations in New York are still open.

The Hartford Business Journal called Fortina the third Harbor Point restaurant to close within the past year.

Closer to home, The Beer Garden at Shippan Landing at 290 Harbor Drive says it is "CLOSED FOR 2026." That means the whole season, not only the winter. The same page says it will reopen in spring 2027. That leaves the outdoor spot on the Shippan side of the water dark until next year. Every option this fall is across the canal.

Two of those spaces already have new tenants

Building and Land Technology, Harbor Point's developer, has signed tenants for two of the three vacated spaces. The details show why neither will change much this winter.

15 Harbor Point Road Mexicue KIN Social, a seasonal pop-up from the Quartiere team Opened July 31, 2026, billed as seasonal

KIN Social is billed as "a Quartiere Project," from the team behind the now-closed Quartiere downtown, according to CT Bites. KIN serves globally inspired small plates and craft cocktails. Its opening slipped from July 24 to July 31. CT Bites listed it as open daily in its September 2026 roundup, with a changing seasonal menu of shared plates. The pop-up label is temporary, but the commitment behind it is not: CT Insider reported that the Quartiere team signed a long-term lease at 15 Harbor Point. KIN was billed as seasonal and no closing date has been announced, so call ahead before counting on it for a December dinner.

Ocean 46 comes with the longer stated commitment. Patch reported on September 9, 2026 that Antonio's Restaurant Group signed a 15-year lease for more than 6,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space at 46 Southfield Ave. The group also runs Antonio's Italian Bistro and Zucchero Café in Darien. The plan calls for seafood, premium steaks, burgers, pastas and Italian-inspired dishes, with an indoor bar, an outdoor bar and a dining area overlooking the harbor. Patch said the opening date would be announced closer to opening. A room with an outdoor bar is built for warm weather, and none of the announcements puts it on this winter's calendar.

In BLT's announcement, as Patch reported it, chairman Carl R. Kuehner called the Quartiere team "exactly the kind of locally rooted, chef-driven operator that strengthens Harbor Point's identity as a vibrant waterfront neighborhood." The landlord is choosing tenants with a long view. Most of those choices pay off after this winter.

The tables with current hours

With two big rooms in transition, the restaurants that show signs of normal fall service make up a short list.

Prime: An American Kitchen & Bar at 78 Southfield Avenue is taking reservations for October dates. Its site lists service hours for every day of the week. That makes it the most dependable option for a planned dinner.

Bareburger at 21 Harbor Point Road lists its hours as noon to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday. It is a sensible choice for an unplanned weeknight, and it sits right where the season's biggest evening event happens. More on that below.

Sign of the Whale at 6 Harbor Point Road keeps an online reservation page running into October. Check a specific date there before you go.

The calendar carries the season

Fewer waterfront dining rooms does not mean a quiet waterfront. Harbor Point's own events calendar runs from this Saturday into early December, and Stamford Downtown fills in the dates around it. Here they are in order:

  1. The Great Pupkin Howl-O-Ween Festival, Saturday, October 24, 1 to 4 p.m., hosted by Harbor Pets in Commons Park. It falls two days after this post goes up.
  2. Stamford Downtown Giant Balloon Inflation Party, Saturday, November 21, 3 to 6 p.m., the afternoon before the parade.
  3. Stamford Downtown Parade Spectacular, Sunday, November 22, noon to 2 p.m.
  4. 15th Annual Harbor Point Turkey Trot 5K Fun Run, Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 26, 8 to 9:30 a.m. The listing doesn't give a start point, so check the event page as the date gets closer.
  5. Harbor Point 16th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting, Wednesday, December 2, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., in Harbor Point Square. Harbor Point's listing places it near restaurants including Bareburger.
  6. Heights & Lights, Sunday, December 6. Santa and other characters rappel down Landmark Square, then a procession heads to Latham Park for holiday music and a tree lighting.

Seen next to the restaurant list, the pattern is easy to work with. The Pupkin festival and the Turkey Trot are daytime events. The tree lighting is a weeknight evening that ends at 6:30 p.m., right as dinner service gets going at the restaurants around Harbor Point Square. The parade and Heights & Lights take place downtown. A Wednesday on December 2 with the lighting first and dinner at Prime or Bareburger after needs no guesswork about what's open. An older Patch story that gives the Harbor Point lighting as December 4 dates from 2024. The 2026 listing says Wednesday, December 2.

What changes after winter

The next chapter sits on the far side of the cold months, and every piece of it has a marker to watch. The Beer Garden says spring 2027. Ocean 46 will announce its date closer to opening, so look for that announcement as the next sign. The Quartiere team's long-term lease at 15 Harbor Point means KIN Social's seasonal run is a first step, not a one-off. No new tenant has been named for the former Fortina space at 120 Washington Blvd.

Until those rooms open, a Shippan resident's Harbor Point winter comes down to three restaurants with current hours and six dates between October 24 and December 6.

Restaurant openings like these affect how buyers see the stretch between Shippan and Harbor Point, and that shows up in how waterfront homes are priced and positioned. If you're wondering what that means for your own property this season, Joshua Weisman can walk you through it with a free home valuation built on what's actually happening along this waterfront.
